Who else waits too long to change their rotary blade?

LOL....me too....but I know why I put it off.....the expense! I bought a little grinder "thingy" at Jo-Ann's for about $18 that is supposed to sharpen blades.....I think it does extend the life a little bit, but not a lot.....

Great minds think alike!! I know why I put it off.....expense! FYI...I bought a sharpener at Jo-Ann's for about $18. It does seem to lengthen the life of a blade for a little while...oops..duplicate post....duh!!

The primitive sharpener I bought years ago always made a bad situation worse. There are several new ones I've seen advertized and I've wondered how they work. If they double the life of a blade they would pay for themselves. For those who've had good experience with the newer ones (not the chintzy one with a ring of emory paper and a manual twist thing for the blade)please post the name of the item and how well it worked. Not interested in a short lived "improvement" but restoration. I'll check back here or email me.

I didn't take the time to read through all 10 pages so I apologize if this suggestion was posted earlier. I read that if you take several pieces of aluminum foil and roll your RC thru it, it sharpens it. Cannot attest to it, however.

Addendum: I have ruined my rotating 12" mat forcing the issue. How much does a new mat cost? Perhaps we frugal types should give that some thought. Also want to add that flipping a blade helps a bit. Clean it with a tissue and rub on just a drop or two of sewing machine oil. The brand new ones always come with a smidgen of oil.

I've seen the ads for blade sharpeners, but after buying two scissor sharpeners I'm not ready to hand over money for a rotary blade sharpener. Has anyone purchased one? If so, does it work? My scissors go to a professional, yeah it costs me around $20 but it is worth every penny and doesn't have to be done that often if you take care of them which as the perfect quilters we are...
