OMG. thanks for posting this. I'm only using one extension cord in our house right now but I'm going to switch it out for a spare power strip I have lying around. How scary. :(

eta: done. It was in my bedroom.

I am so sorry for you loss, but so thankful no one was injured. I had an extension cord plugged in in my sewing room and as soon as I read your post, I went and unplugged it. I will put another serge prottector in there tomorrow.

Thank you for sharing the cause of your fire and for warning all of us.

Thank you everyone for your generous offers, but really I'm fine. Just heartbreaking the time and energy and planning that you put into something that literally goes up in smoke.

I'm very fortunate that this is actually a very small amount of my fabric and I do have lots to fondle still. :D The rest of my stash was upstairs and just needs to be washed and refolded, but good as gold. I'm just going to be at the laundry mat for a couple of days doing this. I wouldn't even let the cleaners take it because I would just have to redo everything once I got it back. So I just need to switch gears now. Making my house back into a home, is my priority currently.

Please, I only posted this for everyone to be safe. I never thought a $2 item would/could do this.

Yes, it was one of the brown 6-8 ft ones.
