If you are talking about the purchased patterns that are 5-1/2 X 8-1/2, I store them in square baskets. If they are patterns that I have acquired on line, the more recent ones are in a hanging folder in the file cabinet. The older ones are in a binder. The magazines are in magazine holders with postnotes marking the patterns that I wish to use in the future. The magazines that I'm not interested in right now are in a crate in case I need to check back in a past issue

I put them in those popcorn tins, at least after eating the popcorn. I do separate pieces in envelopes.

The smaller patterns that come in those clear plastic 'baggies' type thing I have organized by first sorting out the major pattern makers who made them: Atkinson, Miss Rosie, etc. The rest I have grouped by theme and title: stars, curves, etc. These are in one of those magazine holders [given to me by a friend.]

I am trying not to keep many other patterns from magazines but am scanning them into picture files: one with just the pictures and the other with pictures and directions.

My retreat and mystery quilt patterns are all grouped and each in it's own plastic sleeve. I want to get pictures to put in with them, but don't have them yet. [ These are in their own magazine holders [ again, a gift.] Eventually, if I am in a position where I can't do much of anything I might rewrite them and file them with in their own picture file on the computer.

Am slowly getting rid of magazines and some books by .... yep, scanning what I want to keep.

OK, so that isn't all. I still keep some books and magazines for 'sentimental' reasons. Esp the signed ones.

I have two 2-drawer filing cabinets inside an armoire in my sewing/guest bedroom. The armoire is fitted out with shelves and other storage units for a lot of my sewing notions. One of the filing cabinets contains mostly fabric and the other patterns (sorted by type) and magazines in labelled hanging folders.

This is what I do also. I have found that this works the best for me.
