I also had one of my irons start on fire. I was using a Black n Decker and it just started smoking and flames started shooting out of the top. I will never leave my iron plugged in and turned on when I am not in the room..Could have burned the house down.

I agree! Thanks for the warning.

I bought one and when I unplugged it the plug was so hot I couldn't touch it. I am thinking I am going to find a different brand of iron. I am going to send this back to the company.

ANYTHING can catch on fire. Even our wonderful sewing machines and I don't mean just the new ones. They all should be on a power strip and unplugged when not in use. never know when a fire can occur. Better to be safe than sorry. someone could die in a fire caused by our machines.

I have had the same Rowenta iron since 1992 and despite falls and sometimes spitting, it is the best iron I have ever had. I learned to iron at 6 yrs old before steam irons came along so that I could help my mother. The Rowenta was on special at Lechmere sales--long gone--and it has worked well for all ironing. Because of rotator cuff injuries and the need for less weight, I was given the latest thing from another company. It shuts off so fast and spits everywhere !
I think I will watch for another Rowenta that does NOT shut off and that is on sale.20 years is great in my book for no repairs and problems. I checked the cspc.gov website and no recalls are noted for Rowenta irons. Maybe nobody tells them about their problems?
My shoulders are much recovered after surgery. I should add !

Threw my small Rowenta away last week. The water reservoir in the handle cracked in 3 places and began leaking. It, also, overheated and lightly scorched the iron pad.

So sorry this happened and thank goodness you had the presence to stamp it out before there was any further damage. Yes, check the outlet there may be a problem there, or just to make sure it is okay to use. I will be keeping a very keen eye on mine! If this one gives me leaking problems, etc. I will never, ever buy another one. This is my 4th travel iron and they all leaked! Thanks for the warning!

I gave up on Rowentas years ago, and only use the Shark now. Best steam for a standard iron.
