I've read that most who seem to know this stuff say this winter will be a bad one.

I have enough extra hardware in me to sink a ship and it all hurts when it gets cold. I also lose the use of some my thumb on my left hand. That just is miserable....
Fingers crossed that we don't have the ice that we had last year. That was just crazy!!!!

I live on the Gulf coast of Florida- Clearwater/St. Petersburg. Y'all come on down and spend a few days on our sugar sand beaches it's the best medicine for winter blahs! Closest we get to "winter" is Winter the Dolphin that the movie that came out a little bit ago. come visit her, the beach great food, do some seashelling, watch some great spring training baseball and some great quilt shops!! The welcome mat is out for you!

With a 4WD pickup the snow is not a problem, Ice isn't too bad but makes driving a bit harder. Most roads around here are hilly and curvy. Road crews usually put something on the roads. As long as we don't lose power, we're good. We have a small generator to run our 2 refrigerators and we have a woodburning stove that warms up the place pretty well. I like cold better than hot.

Sounds gross, but I have never seen so much road kill. Those squirrels are scampering for their lives with their nuts for the winter. So, that is what we go by -- busy squirrels storing up for a rough winter. Come September, I start "squirreling" for the winter - sales on package mixes, soups, good deals iin meat, stuff like that - paper products; stuff that I don't want to have to carry in the house and fall flat on my face on an icy spot!
I look at it this way - that very first snowfall (coming down, mind you, not landing), is pretty. Christmas Eve is enchanting - the rest is down hill all the way!!!!!!
Happy Winter coming up! I will be sitting at my sewing table looking out the window and just letting the world go by and sooner or later Spring will be here. Edie

Not worried about power outtage, gots a Treadle sewing machine and might I mention my friends, those solar lights you line your walk with. THey make dang good emergency lights, just remember to put them back out during the day to recharge. Especially if you have cats. Candles aren't too safe with cats wandering around wondering what the heck is going on unless you have them on wall scounces. The candles, not the cats.
