It is telling you you are trying to place the block without any color(drawing) and it won't let you do that. Check your block and make sure you have clicked the right arrow below the block in the palette so you see color in your block. It will work when you change that.

I thought I posted this earlier but apparently it didn't get posted.

When that happens I open an already existing project and then click on save as and title it New or whatever you want.

I called the EQ co and the guy I talked to said it is because EQ5 is 10 yrs old and it was made to be compatible with the old systems and the newer systems don't interface with it so well. So in his words you will find errors when trying to use it on a newer system. He said if you can find a way around it then that is what you should do. So the way I do it is the way around that error message.

Open your EQ5 click on open existing project.
Then after you open a project just go up to file and find save as and give it a new name and save it.
If that doesn't work then you will have to upgrade to 6 or 7.

Yippee! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us! I have always learn better by seeing and doing than reading and doing on my own!

Don't feel bad Carol - this happened to me too. I was getting frustrated too, but finally clicked on something and it worked. Hang in there, you are not alone in this!!!! Thanks Rhonda for your help!

Click on quilt in your tool bar at the top.
On that menu click on new quilt
and then slide over on the next menu and click on Horizontal

That should do it.
