Both surprises are great. I love the butterfly quilt and you are right to take it apart and respace the butterfly blocks and save the yellow fabric to fnish the quilt. Can't wait to see your new machine. The oldies are most of the time the godies. Enjoy the machine and enjoy working on your family heirloom qult.

Hi Vicki...I cant wait to see what you do with this quilt.....a lot of options for sure.....I love getting things from our grandparents, aunts....their work was and is superior because most of it was done hand made...wonder what they would say if they saw the sewing machines today that we have?...........anyways have fun and keep us up-dated....thx Trish

I also think it's a good idea of making the sashing smaller and using the extra as an outer border.
What a great thing to get your grandmother's machine. When you get it, if you need help with it, just go on the vintage sewing machine thread and you will find a lot of help of all kinds concerning it. I am so happy for you in getting the two great gifts.

Vicki, I think things from our family should be the most prized. They give us the warmest of feelings even if we didn't have the chance to know them. I have machines from my Aunt and Uncle, she sewed on them and he fixed them. There is no feeling like it. Congradulations!

Oh! It is beautifu! If it were left up to me, I would not disturb your Aunt Lois's piece work. The wide sashing would be great for feather detailing. I can just see it right now in my mind. It would be beautiful! But, I can see what you are saying too. That would also be a good thing if you don't mind disturbing her quilt. I'm sure she'd be proud of anything you do out of appriciation of her quilt and not just putting it away undone. Oh! Was it worn or had holes in it here and there, from what I see it is in good condition. Anyway, please post pictures of it when you complete it. Beautiful!

What a great quilt. It's so nice to get family heirlooms.I like the idea you have to change the sashing, that way the border will be exactly the same. Thanks for sharing your story and the pictures. Mary
