I only cleanup after a project before I start another. I agree with Jaquie about creative clutter being good for the soul. I am so glad I now have a sewing room with a door. Many years ago when I sewed all the time, I sewed in the dining room where we ate and I had to clean it up after every session. But it's your sewing space and if it makes you happy, that's what counts. Good luck with your quilting.

Hi, I am the "neat" one in my family, although I just changed the layout of my sewing room, so now everything is a mess, I don't know where I put things and my current projects are all in bags all over the place! I think though that this time of year it's hard to be organized.

I can walk out of my sewing room and not care about the mess. It gets worse each day until whatever I'm working on is finished and then I clean it up. I live alone though so it doesn't bother anyone. And if anyone comes along and doesn't like it I would show them the door since this is my life and I'm enjoying it.

I'm pretty good about picking up after a project. I just can't get myself to put my fabric cutter away and cover my machine. I have friends that "drop in" and I get too upset if they see a mess.

I'm so bad when I'm working on a project, that my granddaughter has told everyone that her mom-mom is a VERY messy sewer. I've told my G-kids that they are not allowed in there unless I'm with them since there might be pins or needles on the floor. One day, I heard her upstairs screeching and ran to see what was up. She was spread eagle across the door to my sewing room, barring the way to her brother, all the while screaming "No you can't go in there. It's dangerous!"
But I do clean everything up in between projects. At least that way, it never gets truly awful.

Yup you are right...being surrounded with everything close at hand enhances creativity. Up to a certain point, that is. After that, too much clutter seems to block productivity for me. It also definitely reaches a point where things aren't "there when you need them". Or at least I can't rememberwhich pile I should look under. Like everything, all things are better in moderation.
