new to sewing
Hello everyone...I am new to sewing in general and would love some feedback on brands of machines and whether or not to get a separate embroidery machine/ sewing machine. I am new but want a machine that I wont grow out of soon. I am taking a beginner class at Bernina (and loving it!) and am wondering if Bernina is the brand to go with or not. As far as embroidery goes, I don't know how much I will do. I would really like to monogram things and would probably do a lot more as I learn. As far as sewing, I want to hem clothes and make my own curtains/ drapes/ bags, etc. Thanks so much!

Hello. Just wanted to send you a welcome from West Virginia. As far as new machines go, I can't help you there. My newest machine is a Singer 500 Rocketeer, made, I think, in the 70s. I sew regularly on an old Singer Featherweight, a Singer 401, and the 500, plus the old Singer treadle from time to time. These are all metal work horses. Although, I'm sure the new ones do wonderful things. There are times that I would like to embroider a few things, but it wouldn't be enough to justify buying a machine. I'm sure there are lots of quilters on here who can advise you on new machines.

Welcome from North Central Missouri. Most of my married life I have sewn on a Bernina it seems. Kids clothes, to household items...(curtains, table cloths) and of course, quilts. Wish I could afford a new one like the 820. Retired funds are limited and I am very happy with my 1530 quilting Bernina.
