Default help needed modifying pattern with triangles.

This is the table runner I'm working on:
    http://quilting.about.com/od/holiday...ble_runner.htm

The problem is I already had strips cut at 1 1/2" for an Around the World set of placemats and a runner that I decided I'm just not going to do. So I figured I could just adapt this pattern to use those 1 1/2" strips instead of the 1 3/4" ones called for.

All is well for the blocks, but not for the setting and corner triangles. I thought I had figured out how to modify them, but ... adding the next border will cut the corners off.

So ... can anyone figure out what size the triangles should be? Or should I just keep doing what I'm doing and lose the outside tips on the blocks?

The picture shows the left side with the dark green border just laid on the block, the top shows how the triangles meet the block, the triangle on the bottom right is the size the pattern called for - I think 1 1/2" need to be trimmed from it to allow for the seams taken in the block, but ... I really have no idea!

Try the fons and porter web site-they tell you how much to add to your triangles to get the right finished size-good luck

Guess I don't know where to look - I found a Triangle Surprise quilt that had a chart on how to make it different sizes. Also found a nifty ruler that can be used to make a triangle the right size to sew to a square, but ... I don't have the nifty ruler. Thanks for looking. Sorry if I just missed it on that site.

I think I over thought myself. The picture of the pattern shows the triangles the same size as the square. I should have known that the tips of the triangle will go past the corners of the square - right?

for setting triangles- measure the size of the block you want to put on point- multiply that number by 1.141 round up- if it's an odd-ball decimal number- add 1 1/4" to the multiplied total- that is the size square to cut- cut this square in 1/2 diagonally- in both directions for 4 setting triangles- this will give you your needed 1/4" seam allowance at your points.

You are heaven sent. I copied these instructions so that hopefully I can finish the 3 runners I have. Your instructions are something I have needed for months. Thanks!

That looks nice. I have to say, this is why this Board is so great. There is always someone out there who knows the answer to our questions!
