Go and buy a new Janome. I have 2 pfaffs and 2 janome. I prefer Janome. You can get a brand new Janome for about the same as used. Go to a dealer and check it out. New pfaffsare poorly made now.

I am also a die hard Pfaff fan, love the built-in walking foot. My machine was bought in 1986 and still runs like a top.

Janome is having a big promotion right now -- you should be able to get a good deal on a new machine.

I have no experience with Janome, except for the child's version that we bought for our great granddaughter and it didn't last but a few sewing times making an apron, and then it was sounding awful. I have bought several Pfaffs and love them. Right now I have a Pfaff 7570 which also has an embroidery attachment (which I seldom use), but I am sold on Pfaff. I also like Brother. I have a Brother CS6000i which I use for everyday sewing and I love it, too.

I recommend Janome. A few years ago Pfaff went into a conglomerate with Viking and Singer. None of them has maintained their own identity. I have heard several complaints about Pfaff since that happened.

I have used both Pfaff and Janome and have gone strictly to Janome - easier to use and just a better machine for me.

I have the Pfaff quilt expression 4.0 and absolutely love it. I got it this summer and at a sale got it for $1.950.00 and thought that I did good. Never had a Janome but heard that it's a great machine also. Good luck....
