I think everyone should make a list of the TOP 10 you would like to see completed by the end of the year! Do not worry about the other 150 on the list, just the TOP 10! and they can not be potholders, mug rugs, or coasters..but actual quilted things like wall hangings, stockings, etc!

This year I took part in a UFO challenge elsewhere that was very elaborately organised, and I don't think that actually helped me very much - it set me up to fail. I really like the easy-going approach here on the board. I've gathered up all my UFOs and put them in crates under my bed so that I'm not overwhelmed by the sight of them (about 17). Out of interest, I made a list of them just so I know what I've got. My method is going to be to pull one out at random and start working on it. If, as often happens, it comes to a temporary halt because I need fabric, batting or thread, I'll put it back until I can get to the quilt shop and pull another one out. I've decided not to try to do one a month, because if I fail early on, I'll get discouraged. I'm thinking that for me what might work best is simply to resolve to do some work on one of the UFOs every day that I can get to my sewing machine. That way I should at least make some progress and, who knows, may even finish some! And being able to come here and share how I'm doing will be a huge help.
We all work differently - some people need to set themselves targets, some of us don't respond well to that approach. Some like to focus on one project, others like to have variety. This challenge is great, because we can all play to our own strengths and favourite working methods, and hopefully get some of those UFOs onto the finished list this next year!

I'm in.... did not get all of them done last year because I had too many other gift quilts to do. Now I have time to get the 3 that have been hanging around here for years done!

Going to start on them tomorrow... New Years Day!

Now, if I can only get this room cleaned up so I can start, that would be a big help. LOL

I agree!! This challenge is about encouraging and helping each other get stuff done! I know I'm not real likely to even work on one UFO in January because I have a baby quilt that needs done and I have a workshop the first weekend of February to design a pair of wall hangings for. I haven't started any of them yet!

I am down to two UFO's . Finally. I have worked the last few months getting them finished. Now, I have to work on getting my stash down.

My statement to make the list of the TOP 10 was so that people would not overwhelm themselves by making a HUGE list that would not get done...I was trying to encourage them to start small..and then add on if they can!

I am signing up this year. My first ufo is to finish cleaning up the building I will be using as a sewing studio. Right now it is pretty much just storage. I will be starting on that on Jan 2nd. I also hope to finish a baby quilt I have all the blocks done for & just need to sew them together, sandwich and quilt and of course (ugh) bind. Then on to the next onto the next 6. Boy will I be busy. Once my sewing studio is set up (my the end of Jan) I intend to spend about 6 hours a day sewing.

I have followed other threads on this board where the quilter showed the progress in pictures as it evolved. I had such a good time watching the quilt come into being and, I think, showing people the steps helped the maker stay motivated. Maybe we could do something like that. I don't want to bore anyone but if everyone thinks it's a good idea I would sure like to see the actual projects while in progress. Not just when done.
