Not sure about an answer but I love this quilt - so cute plus the colors are very pretty. I love owls and have a ceramic collection - they make me smile whenever I see them.

I made a similar quilt for my granddaughter, but assembled and sent the quilt to a long-arm quilter rather than trying to quilt it myself. Someone on here said something about doing the applique first, then quilting the block if you decide to QAYG. I tend to agree with that, because the applique stitches will be visible on the back if you qpplique the sandwich. Anyway...here's the one that I made

Cut the joining strips to be 1/2 inch larger than your finished sashing. Be careful with your 1/4 inch seam allowance and be sure to keep the backing fabric loose. Sew the sashing to one side of the row, right sides together. Press the sashing open. Line up the next row so the top and bottom sashing are aligned right sides together with the sashing piece. Sew together using 1/4 inch seam allowance. Press fully open. Turn under the backing fabric (you might have to trim a little) and hand sew the back seam closed.

Clear as mud right?
No, clear as a bell - this was my exact thought process beginning to end.
