Thank you NDQuilts - this makes perfect sense. Wandering is exactly what has happened in my previous attempts. I am quilting fabric to use in making a purse. I just put together a couple of scrap pieces layered with batting on the back and will give this a "test drive". Thank you so much for taking the time to help me. Blessings . . .

I can't sew a straight enough line without a walking foot, even with tape, so when I'm using my FMQ foot, I just use a ruler. Hold the ruler down on the fabric and just slide it along the FMQ foot along with the fabric underneath. It works best if you have an acrylic extension table on your machine so there is a flat surface to work on.
