That's not selfish, that's thinking smart! I hold on to mine until I've had it cut...if I see a fabric someone else has that I like, I ask if I can have the bolt next or wait until the clerk finishes the order and puts the bolt aside .

While I'm new to quilting, I've been around fabric all my life thanks to a mom who sews, we even owned a shop many years ago. I don't consider that being selfish, you had it first, you have the choice of first cut!

Great comments - you were in the 'right'. When we go to a fabric store we are in search - "finders keepers - losers weepers!" lol Enjoy for fabric

I don't think that was selfish, but you had the bolt first and it is only fair that you get yours first.

Meant to type Enjoy Your Fabric
Recently at my JoAnn store, bought the remainder of a bolt. Bolt on sale 60% so gal charged me for 1 yard at 60% and then remainder (almost 3/4 yd) as remnant (add'l % off the sale price !) Thanks but sadly this store is not replenishing their shelves of quilting cottons. Something tells me they will be closing soon and this particular Mall has many empty stores. This was a smaller JoAnn store and more personal when shopping.

Not selfish at all. You had the fabric first and it was in your possession. No question!

Wow I understand in today's economy that most stores will sell fabric to whoever But I think it's very unfair of them to just walk up and take a bolt that your holding to cut fabric for someone else. I think they should have waited until you got the fabric you wanted cut first and then taken what was left for the other customer.

I've been in our LQS and have bolts of fabric in my hands and other customer's have tried to take a bolt I'm holding right out of my hands. I politely told the lady that as soon as I got the fabric I needed cut I would be more than be happy to give her the bolt when I was done.

Remember, possesion is 90% of the law! Stand proud you stood up for your right to bear fabric.
