Can these blocks be used creatively? -- ideas are welcome

From your "update" it sounds like I'm too late to pipe in on these blocks. But for future reference, I'd recommend you check out the book "Setting Solutions" by Sharyn Craig. The whole book is dedicated to creating beautiful quilts from problem blocks (ie. sizing inconsistencies, colors that don't seem to go together, orphan blocks, etc.). She definitely encourages you to think outside the box. The book was published in 2001 but can be found on Amazon. I found mine last year in a used book store. It was more than I initially wanted to pay, but has been worth every penny.

If the other 16 blocks are as beautiful as these they would make a stunning bed quilt! I love the way those bright colors dance among the blacks and greys. Black sashing with random colored squares at the corners and a stripey pieced border would be amazing!

I would go absolutely wild and cut each block in half diagonally. Then I would sew it to a black triangle. I would trim these different sizes,set them wonky, add black borders to make them the same size, add black sashing and sew them up in a quilt. With an unusual pattern like that who would notice they were beginner's blocks?

Oh these blocks have definite possibilities! They would even be lovely to just put a sashing inbetween and showcase them that way. Iron them. Put a square on them and put them together. You will have yourself a nice quilt.

the size of the blocks are close enough that I'd measure the smallest and then using the center of the block cut them all to size. You could put sashing between them and put them on point and it would make a pretty quilt. Or you could split them up; it looks like about half of them are close to one size and the other half are close to one size and make two quilts. Or you could get creative and by either using sashing or filler blocks leave the blocks the size they are and differ the size of the sashing or filler blocks to make a quilt. I would definitely would make something with them though; they have some pretty fabric in them. Good luck and post back to let us know what you've done.
