Thank you all for keeping up on showing your blocks. I'm quite a bit behind but I'm getting there. I'm trying to do the colours very close to the DJ book & I'm getting soooooo tired of brown shades. Probably, too, I don't have enough variety in the civil war prints. I think what I'll do is jump ahead to some other colours but within the time range. I'm not going to jump beyond the current week. I'm working all of this weekend so I won't be able to do anything until about Tuesday. UGH!
I will try to post a picture of the ones I've done since my last photo.

I'm sure we all have plenty of fabrics that will pass in a Civil War quilt. Maureen - I did some research on this early on and the quilts actually made during the war itself were pretty colorful. The fabrics actually made during and after the war were dull. The original DJ had tons of brights - blues, reds, greens and yellows and all on a not so dull background. The muslin even looks bleached white, not dull at all. I've kind of mixed mine up because I started with dulls [thanks to my dear friend....ahem.....] and then moved to the more accurate brights. Now I'm not sure how it will all go together. I was hoping to QAYG but until I decide how I'm sashing the blocks I can't really start. I figure if I make the narrow sashing like Jane Stickle did, QAYG would be perfect because you can do individual blocks and not worry about batting under the sashing because the seam allowance automatically fills it in. On the other hand, with so many different color combos, I may need a wider sashing - like Bonnie Hunter used [a storm at sea sashing] - to tie it all together.

My knee is super painful...waiting for an MRI & pluggin along trying to play catch up with the DJ myself... a little more handwork!

sending a reply gets impossible sometimes!!!! anyone else have these problems? I sometimes get a message that my message is too short. Other times, like just now, I spent a lot of time uploading and it disappears. Yet other times, also just happened... I try to type in the reply box and a repeat of the site heading with "Quilting Board..the quilter's message board" and my settings at the top appearing in the reply box with no way of getting rid of it! annoying...

Well I will try 1 more time...

I did A12 a little different: I started by making a set of 4 flying geese blocks using the 'no waste method' and added one to the center block and attached. next, I cut four triangles that I attached to a flying geese and then added to the center unit in log cabin fashion, ending by adding a triangle to either side of the final flying goose unit and finishing off the center square. After trimming the square, I added background sashing around and the final sets of print triangles followed by background triangles. I had to trim down the background sashing so that the points would all come out right. I'm not including the measurements [again - because all the typing disappeared last time] But I will attempt to include the pictures...

Thanks Cre8 for the info. I'll forge ahead & look for some more "brights" so to speak. I did start up a block (can't remember now which one it is!) in a red colour which is making me feel better. I just needed to get away from the browns!

Thanks for the link. It is amazing how much brighter the fabrics are there than on the book cover. Will have to rethink what colors I use when I get to do it.
