Joanne, no, its not part of the pattern. I designed the swirling vine applique border, then I added the additional narrow orange strip, then added the background stip as well. I thought it might be too plain (but I needed the extra few inches), so decided to repeat the quilting pattern from the on point center and then to try the Notched edge binding. Glad you like it.

I was bound and determined that I would learn to do needle turn with just a needle, so thats how I did this quilt. I'm much better at it now than I was when I started, but still can improve....a LOT!

Lots of you ask how many hours. I really have NO idea. I worked on this quilt every evening while watching tv for probably 3 hours or so...for 14 months. Add in the time to quilt (yes, I did quilt it myself on my DSM- which is domestic sewing machine..no long arm). The quilting took probably 90-100 hours. I had to do all the center peach blocks twice since they are trapunto. So...you tell me....I'm afraid to add it up! LOL!
