Our quilt group does a quilt a thon each year and and we take all our scrap fabrics and make string quilts, 9 patch blocks or just whatever we want to do, and make quilts for a fundraiser for the groups in town, like the volunteer fire dept. We do teams of up to 4 people and have a contest to see how many blocks each team can complete. The first year we did 550 12 1/2 inch blocks. The local hotels give us their sheets that are ripped or stained to use as a foundation or we use scraps of batting, and we usually cut them at 13 so that we can square them up to the same size. Then we put them togother using quilt as you go method. Its a lot of fun and a day to sew without any worries doing a project that doesn't take a lot of thought to do. We all need to zone out once in a while and have fun.

Amazing how changing the color of a key element like sashing changes the "feel" of the quilt. Love all of them!

Your quilts look great. Like stained glass. I see you even used scraps for some bindings. Good job (s)!

I too have tons of scraps - cut into strips and squares until just bits left! Have made 4 "scrap" quilts and 2 string quilts so far and have a small dent in my scraps. I was a crafter for 20 yrs and "waste not want not" always played in my head. My stash is huge and I've also made braided totes and 1000 pyramids (no 2 pieces were alike) top that won blue ribbon last year @ county fair. Also made tumbler and hexagon tops with no repeats. Love scrap quilts. Judy
