So glad the guineas know where home is! How big are they by now? I'll bake the virtual birthday cake for one of the celebrations. It will be my Dad's favorite...yellow cake with raspberry jam filling and dusted with powdered sugar through a lace doily. Hummmmm.....good! My birthday is the 14th.

I'm so glad the little guys found their way home! Maybe a dumb question, but are you raising the guineas for their meat, eggs, or as pets?

JeanieG, I guess you would say they are pets; they eat ticks & bugs like that...if you can keep them home. They are cute little guys to watch. They also make sounds when they are happy or alarmed with a new invader into the yard (excellent watch dogs!!!). Dh discovered they did not have enough food in their A-framed Chicken tractor, therefore, they went in search of more food. They fly or crouch silently when a predator threatens them; often guineas will roost in trees and owls will hunt them. They all go around the yard together...will try to get photos of them this weekend.

Turkeys are putting the ducks to bed every night in the duck house...and then they sat on top of it and in front of it to guard them until the turkeys are put to bed. Mornings will find them in pursuit of one another....turkeys after ducks, then the ducks after the turkeys. Both are grown larger and starting to look like a good size for the table in November and December. Turkeys are not afraid of anyone...people on two legs can approach them without the turkey flying away. With the Cub Cadet, they will come running and pursuit the tractor, fly on top of it., etc.

Oh gosh QNS, those critters sound like so much fun! I would love to just sit and watch what you are describing! How old will the chickens have to be before they will be laying eggs??? My first husband and I had five acres, and we raised chickens and even had a peahen and chick for a while. I loved my chickens. They would just come running when I came out of the kitchen with scraps for them. And the eggs were wonderful!

Here is a "jelly roll race" quilt my 12yo son started for the 4-h quilt club last fall and I finished today...it was the 1st project of the year. He only joined b/c they needed 5 kids and there were just 4 girls who signed up. He started the borders but didn't really like it (not "his colors") so said I could finish. I did SITD quilting and did get him to help with some of that.

I had to include the backing he chose...I really like it.

He is working on an all flannel quilt that he wants to finish by winter for his bed....has to quilt the rows and add borders (doing QAYG)...it is for a queen size bed.
