Thanks for the information, ladies. I'd love to buy the grid cloths . . . But $100 would be better spent elsewhere right now. I'll try the stripe canvas. Would 1 1/2 yd do it??

I don't have a long arm but I wonder if they still make that 3 inch wide heavy fabric strips that you sewed into the top of drapes? It was like canvas that you used to make the top of pleated drapes that you slid the long hooks into. I would think it would be great with finished edges and sturdy. Just a thought....
