Default Fabric choices for cousin's son's quilt

My cousin's son is 14. He is usually playing some sort of video game and he loves paintball. When he saw the quilt I had made at Christmas for my brother, he asked if I could make him one. I said maybe. I found this neat fabric online. I think I'm going to do big squares to show off the fabric and the back will be the paintball fabric. I was thinking I might just put various colors around each block. What do you think?

The game fabric is from http://www.grubersquiltshop.com/Fabr...PrintsMisc.htm The name on the selvedge says..."Techno Kid's" #H4004 by Hoffman California International Fabrics.

The spatter paint fabric is from www.fabric.com It's call "Graphic Collage Primary/Multi FP-329

    I hope this helps.

Do you think my idea of different colors around the squares sound okay. I need to get it done so I can start on another quilt. I have until Christmas, but I wanted to get this one done for sure since Clayton asked for one.

I just checked the site for the spatter paint and can't find it. They might be out. I got it for $3.95 a yard in the clearance section. I think it might be made by Marcus Brothers.

If I am understanding you right, you're going to take that techno kid fabric and cut it into large squares and want to add colored borders around the square and ultimately join the squares into a top. I would frame the square with 4 colors total -- one color each side.

If you are not cutting up your techno kid fabric but want to add a multi colored border along the lines of the picture you have posted, go for it. The yellow on the top doesn't look as vibrant as the other colors you have and a gray would be a good addition, too. Could just be my computer monitor, too.

Have fun! That is so sweet that you're making a quilt for your cousin's son. You must make great quilts for him to be asking for one. Those are GREAT fabric finds for him. I wish you were my cousin.

i agree with multiple colors around the blocks... maybe with attic windows pattern since you are keeping the fabric mostly "whole" ?? really love the fabrics ...and pretty special that a 14 year old boy liked your quilt enough to ask for one of his own. with those fabrics, it will be great whatever you decide.
