    You can clean out the lint, yourself; it's usually regarded as owner maintenance. If you can access the oiling points, do that yourself, as well. As for the money, I'd take it and start a new machine nest egg.

    Thank you all for the warm welcome! I think I'll get some new machine oil and take a crack at fixing the thing myself, sit on the cash for as long as I can, resist blowing it on fabric if I can, and pick up the dodads for my embroidery machine.

    Take the machine in for a thorough cleaning before it freezes up, then buy that sewing oil, get out your brushes and screwdriver to clean and oil all your other machines. Is Allbrands the best price for a basic service call?
