before I got the hang of it I would use a long pin and pin on the sewing line then fold the fabric over to be sure it covered, you can use pretty small pieces if you get it situated right. good luck

Go to library and get a book on paper piecing by Carol Doak. She is the absolute best! Had problems with my first square many years ago, but persisted and 20 + years later love to paper piece.

crkathleen

do you use the "add 1/8" and the "add 1/4" rulers...I couldn't do the paperpiecing without them. Hated PP until I was shown these rulers

they work wonders........

My hint to making sure your fabric is the right size is this: make an extra copy of your foundation and cut out each piece. The wrong side of the paper should be facing up and your fabric should be right side up too. Then cut your fabric 3/8 -1/2" larger than the template all of the way around it. You will always have your pieces cut at the proper angles this way and they will also be plenty big enough, and with a little wiggle room, too

I also sometimes extend the drawing line beyond where it is to be sewn. That way I can be sure to get the fabric where it belongs. Works for me.
