A woman mentioned that she only buys what she needs at our quilt show our guild put on. I wish I had her self control. I spent over $200.00 dollars on fat quarters, and $3.00 a yard cuts. I am a hoarder of fabrics, not a fabricholic.

Definitely. I just bought several sale end of bolts ($3/yd) at a quilt shop in Reno, because I liked them.

Definitely, because at least half of the "fun" of quilting is touching and enjoying the fabric itself. Why not?

I can't think of a less harmful thing to do. It gives you something to work with on a rainy day and inspiration for future projects.

I do the same with food. If something is on sale that I didn't realize ahead of time, I buy it and use my freezer (for meat) and cabinets (for canned goods) and refrigerator (for things like yogurt, fruits/veggies) and then use up what I found at a great price.

For me, it is a very, very logical way to function!

I'd always bought what I'd rather call 'what I like' than 'just because'...that was bad enough!!

Then I got a job managing the quilt fabric dept of a large craft store. The notifications would come thru weekly on what fabrics were discontinued/written off and I was to dramatically discount and move them. So I'd buy minimum 2 metres of each, some the whole card. The trunk of my car would be dragging on the road home.

Surfice to say, I was a favourite with my customers because I discounted 90%. And I have a ridiculously HUGE stash!!!

Absolutely, you will find something to use it for. Or build a project off the piece you bought!

I'm a little behind in reading some of these posts, but heck yes, I buy fabric 'just because'! Then I wrack my brain wondering what I'm going to create from it!

Yes, I do, when I'm in the states. But, it's bad when I find that I've bought that fabric before--well, sometimes that is. Sometimes I want lots of a certain fabric!

I am a fabricholic especially when it is on sale. Got three huge bags of Christmas fabric from Hancock and Joanns in Chicago when I was home on vacation in July.
