    Default Pricing quilts

I am new at selling my quilts and was curious about how to price them. Some are all hand pieced and quilted and others are all machine pieced and quilted. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum, did you do a search here? It has been brought up many times with interesting and informative comments. I get discouraged by the big-box store mentality/pricing so haven't tried to go that route. Most people fall over when they hear fabric at the LQS goes for at least $10/yard.

I'd like to hear the answer of this thread...

we thought about selling our quilts for a while. We figure out price for materials, then times(x) that by 3, just to make a profit.

but, as I said, we thought about it...haven't gotten around to actually doing it yet...

To me, it really depends on what people will actually pay for the quilt. You can price it at any price, but if no one wants to spend that kind of money on a quilt, then you are out of luck. I think our quilts are worth so much more than we can get for them. Marianne Fons said a queen quilt that she would make, she would sell for $2,000. That's because her name is attached to it. I think that is a very fair price for one of her quilts. I think a king quilt with a lot of nice piecing should go for $900 myself. And that is low. I know that no one would pay that, but I think that is what should be asked.

I'm having a gal make me a diaper bag. I bought $69 worth of fabric and materials and am paying her $100 for her time. I think that is very fair. So does she. This is the second diaper bag she's making me. She makes them out of fabric that isn't childish, so the bag can be used as an overnight bathroom bag once the baby gets older. So, $169 for a diaper bag is a very fair price. People who don't sew would think I was nuts to pay this much.

I am still trying to decide how much to charge for lap size quilts at the World's largest Christmas Bazaar. This will be the first time I have tried to sell there.

I don't know if this helps, but there were a number of queen sized quilts all batik fabric and professionally longarm quilted for sale at our quilt show. They were priced from $650 to $950. One of the makers said that paid for fabric and quilting only, but she at least could recoup her expenses. BTW the quilting was pretty basic edge to edge, not custom.
