I am turning 32 in under 2 weeks here, and while I've been working on quilting related sewing since May of this year, I have been off and on sewing other things for quite some time. But i'm addicted to UFO's. Do I still count?

I am 39 and I started quilting when I was 29 and sewing when I was just a wee little one. I had my first toy sewing machine at about 4 and started using the real one once I could comfortably reach the treadle, so about 8 or 9.

I will be 51 in two weeks, have been quilting since I was 22, sewing on a machine since I was in the 6th grade. My mom taught me how to embroider when I was very small.

Look at all the professional quilters.
Mary Fons is very young. Ricky Tims etc.
    Quilting is for every age.

Thank you all! I don't feel old at 58. I don't think any of us are old as long as we can quilt still. It takes a lot of skills to quilt and you have to be quick witted to quilt. My friend was going to get a quilt from me, but now he isn't. Not after saying only old women quilt. He can go find an old woman to quilt him one.

I tell young people who say quilting is for old ladies that 'old ladies' win thousands of dollars at quilt shows. A place or show win at a big show will pay for a lot of college hours!

The national Modern Quilt Guild is alive and active. They do wonderful, modern, hip stuff. There is an active group in Portland, Oregon your doubting friend can go to since seeing is believing.
