    Default String Quilt Borders

I have sewn a string quilt using muslin as the foundation and have added a border that is 6 inches to it. Since the string squares are now thicker than the border what should I do to add weight to the border. I may not add any batting to this quilt since it is going to be fairly heavy as is. I like lighter weight quilts since it does not get to cold here for more than a few days at a time. I will probably quilt a simple meander overall on this quilt. Thanks for any input.

How about if you just add a muslin backing to the border.... you know, sew it from the wrong side where the border and quilt are joined inclosing the border/quilt seam so you have no raw edges and then add the binding to finish everything off? I think that's what I would do.

Can you add a strip of muslin underneath the border? That would make it the same weight as the rest of the quilt.

(oops, i see oh munner beat me to it. my puter doesn't seem to refresh very well.)

I can appreciate you not wanting to add any 'heavy thick batting' but I do think the over all quilt would benefit from something for over all strength and structure. How about a piece of simple flannel in the center, that will give you just a little more something to quilt to and for stability of all those strips and blocks in the front.
