    Default Hawaiian Quilt

    Just returned from a vacation from the beautiful state of Hawaii. Seen some beautiful quilts. Have any of you made a Hawaiian quilt? I got a book so I'm anxious to try.

    They are stunning! I have templates for a couple patterns but haven't tackled them yet. Keep us posted on your progress.

    I got as far as a pillow front in a traditional Hawaiian needle turn block. I admire those who accomplish a quilt. After the pillow front, I decided it was not for me. My hands cramp too much to enjoy needle turn appliqué.

    I just bought out an estate sale of her Hawaiian fabric and plan on doing several myself but they look so hard I might need to improve my sewing skills first :}

    I also am in awe of their stunning quilts. I have only made a cushion cover which sits proudly on my bed. Not sure that I could tackle a king size bed quilt using that method.

    Pacific Rim Quilt Co has a wonderful book &/or DVD by Nancy Chong that is great for doing a Hawiaan quilt. I storngly suggest you watch her DVD or see if your local library or a quilting buddy has it.

    I am in the process...I have a red on white trumpet vine design almost appliqued. The next phase will be the hand quilting. My daughter quilts and wants me to finish it so she wont have to! LOL!. I started it when I got breasted cancer..Hows that for optimism?

    I went to a local shop hop and one of the stores happened to be featuring a hawaiian quilt. I picked up a book, and have been teaching myself. I have also been able to be in touch with the lady that is teaching a class, and through e-mail she has given me some help. I am working on a pineapple block right now. I do plan to do a quilt. Also, if you like Poakalini on facebook, they have created state flower blocks using this method of all of the states. They are just working on the last two states of Alaska and Hawaii. I love doing this. The needle turn applique has been easy for me to figure out. For me, it is relaxing.
