Use that Stash! Fabric Moratorium
#81
I tried it a few years ago and did rather well. I'll try it again this year. I don't have a large stash, but I do need to use up what I have on hand. Thanks for inspiring me to use up what I have.

What a great idea! I've gone FOUR WEEKS without buying any fabric. I'm trying to reach the first of the year -- LOL. Whenever I find I need additional fabric for a particular quilt I'm wprking on, if I can't find something in my overflowing stash to substitute, I will put it away until after Jan. 1st.

My fabric stash is my one extravagance - well, that and machines. I LOVE sewing machines, almost as much as fabric. I started with vintage machines and then grounded myself to embroidery/quilting machines and now that's all I have. I have closets of fabric, but I use them all the time. I love scrappy and blend everything. I plan on buying what I like for this year - then I am thinking of retiring and then I won't buy - maybe never again!! Oh no, whatever will I do.?? lol Seriously, how can you all resist? I guess I'm just weak.

Lucky for me, I'm a new quilter - so building stash is on my agenda for 2013!

I'm willing to join. I have so large a stash that even with it organized by color, I frequently forget that I have different fabrics. End result --- I sometimes end up rebuying what I already have stashed when I don't need the fabric.
I also have a huge file of UFOs packaged with their fabrics -- that doesn't include the quilt kits I've purchase over the past few years.
A 12-month moratorium of buying more except for bindings or backings will be great. So count me in.

I'm on board! I have been doing this all year and can handle another 5 before I run out of fabric. I've only bought a few pieces to finish off some projects. I have also joined a quilt challenge group that does a themed project every two months. I have a double challenge because I make this project come out of my UFO's and stash. It has been fun.

NOPE, NOPE, NOPE!!!!! I don't even wanna think about not being able to purchase any new fabric just because of some challenge. It took along time to build up this stash of vintage fabric. NO THANKS!!!!!!

Just rearranged all my fabric and couldn't believe how much I had! I think it multiplies when stored. I'm with you too. I retired this past summer and hope to "live" in my sewing room. Now that I don't have that "walk around" money from my school bus driving job, I need to have a little more attention to detail regarding my checking account! Save and waste not!
