    I vote for #1, I don't think it's too busy, but it sure would be a lot of extra work!

    I prefer #2, it has a better balance of busy and neutral space, but they both look nice and it will depend on the preferences of you son and DIL.

    Have you considered making the sashing 1/2 green and 1/2 blue to balance with the setting triangles that are 1/2 green and 1/2 blue?

    I vote for #2 - more restfull and you can really see the pattern of the pieced block (which is lovely )- and that quilting design will really pop the whole quilt.
