Default Beginning steps of a little twister

I understand about sewing the charm squares together and using the tool to cut it apart and resewing. But is there a way to set the blocks up and know that when they are cut and "twisted" they will result in a picture that is intended to be. For example, if a person was to make a picture of a Christmas gift, and it was to be put on graph paper to plan the squares...how many squares over of how many rows so that when cut they would look like the present? I don't know if I am making this extra hard or am just thick headed, but for the life of me I don't know how to get started. I see the pictures of others and want to make something like another person has, but don't know how to begin. Sorry if I am unclear in my question. Thanks ...

I am sorry i cannot help, I only made one twister and did not know how it would turn out. Be sure to make all of the blocks a contrast to each other and the 1st boarder a contrast to all of the others. Good luck and show us when you are finshed.

I don't think there is a pattern for what you want to do. You just have to play with the blocks til you get something you like. Go back and look at the others again and get the general gist of it. You know the general shape of what you want just start there.

this shows an original layout and the results - not the picture of an object, but clearly shows the relationship

this on doesn't show the twister, but the poster shows her original layout for her heart

    hope that helps

I did a search on her blog and found a pic of the finished little heart so we can compare the layout to the finished heart. It's small but could be made larger. She has a lot of neat stuff!!

I think as long as you have a solid color for several rows around you gift shape to make it stand out, it should turn out fine. I'm currently attempting a twister also, mine has 5 hearts and a couple of rectangles in my made up design......not sure yet how it's going to turn out, lol.
