“Lucy let me ‘splain…”

So I’m wondering what the attraction or advantages of reverse appliqué are? I watched a “Simply Quilts” video and it got me wondering about it. I’m sure there must be a reason, or at least a theory on it. Sort of like the relationship of that between trapunto and Mctavish I’d imagine?
Please, can anyone enlighten me?

Steve,
Reverse applique brings the background to the front, so the design looks recessed. It just has a different look than traditional applique. I did a small wallhanging using both applique techniques, and it has a very dimensional look. If you like applique, I think you should try it. :D :D

I've not done reverse applique...but I've always admired it. It always reminds me of the really cool Christmas cookies...stained glass windows...you know...round cookie..crunched up hard candy...then another round cookie with a star(heart, tree. etc) type cut out in the middle. Baked in the oven, and the candy melts to a pretty stained glass looking piece of yummy cookieness. Hmmmm shall I bake or quilt...cause right now both sound pretty darn good.

I think it offers a whole new challenge to one's quilting skills. Especially when one does multiple layers. I want to do it, but I am scared!! Is there a good site for this method? Minda, let's see what you did, please, please, pretty please :!: :D

Reversed applique does sound interesting.
Could anyone give a chatroom class on it?
Steve, you said that you had done a project using both regular applique and reversed applique. Do you have a picture of that? I'd love to see it and see how the two methods differ.
