Question Anyone ever cut up a 1600 quilt?

I'm working on a 1600 quilt top (I haven't sewn in months, and figured this would be a quick, easy project to get me back in the mood), but I'm not crazy about the lack of color separation thus far. Has anyone ever sewn two or three of the rows together and then cut up the the sewn strips to use in a different way?

Yes. I did not like how mine turned out, so I cut it again and made a postage stamp quilt.

There is a video on YouTube that shows sewing the strips and then cutting it inot blocks and flipping the blocks around. Of course, I can't think of the title of the video right now. I'll do some searching while I wait for my starch to dry.

Peckish, I *love* it! Did you cut your strips 2.5 inches? Please do tell. You've given me hope

It started out as a batik jelly roll, 2.5" strips. I re-cut it at 2.5 inches, which includes the seam allowances, and sewed it back together. This is what it looked like before I cut it. Ick!

I did the 1600 quilt at the beginning of the year and really didn't like how it looked so I put it away. I was just thinking to cut it up into something else to make it prettier. Thanks for the idea!

Peggi, i love what you did with your original quilt. my first thought was... what if you get two colors in the same new square. i had to search hard, but i see that you did. it really doesn't show up, though. looks fantastic. i would never have thought to do such a thing. thanks to quiltnchik for posting the question
