My new title is Handi-woman Quilter Supreme
Just for grins, you gotta love guys!!!
We usually hire out everything around the house. My husband can duct tape something together but that's the end of his mechanical abilities. I literally hire out the changing of the light bulbs in my office!!
We had a slow leak in the master bath and it ruined the floor. I said, come on we can fix this. It is stupid to pay out all this money for stuff I know we can do.
So I get on you tube and away we go. Had to yank the subflooring, etc down to the joists. We bought all the saws that they recommended, etc.
My husband could not figure out how we were going to get the subflooring back in square with a hole for the toilet in the center and was having a cow over laying the 12 inch vinyl tiles with the multiple sub cuts.
There he is with some carpenter's square and God knows what else, telling me he needs a tile cutting knife so I need to go to the store. Plus circle cutting thing was blowing his mind.
Now what is the difference between a 10 foot by 8 foot bathroom vinyl floor and a queen size quilt??? In my mind, not a heck of alot. So I go upstairs and start pulling out rotary cutters and matts and rectangle/circle templates and rulers and chalk.
I started measuring the floor in multiple places, marking the plywood where to cut with a 24 inch Omnigrid square and a binding tool. He was positive I had flipped my lid so off he trots to the store just grumbling like mad.
By the time he gets back from Home Depot which is the next town over, I have used my 24 inch square and big rulers to mark the two pieces of subflooring like a quilt, even with notes on which side of the line to cut (just like moving your needle to one side), he was nodding. It fit like it didn't even need nails.
By then I was measuring out the room to get the tiles centers.
After I marked out the nastiest piece of vinyl with a notch out and two sub-cuts that weren't 90 degrees, he was impressed and was looking for the receipt to return the stuff he had bought to the hardware store. When I scored it with the rotary cutters, using the difference sizes to get into the tight angles and it slid perfectly into the space, you could see a whole new appreciation for my quilting and all that "junk up in your room".
He is finishing some of the easier cuts now....with my 60mm rotary cutter.
He says isn't Joann's having a sale today? Yep. Well if there anymore of these cool things you need, go get them, because they are really slick. No, honey, other than replacing the blades we used out of my stock, I am pretty set for now.
