A very good comparison for those whose husbands have a hobby - but unfortunately my DH doesn't have a hobby. So, I just don't say anything (usually) when I do buy fabrics, etc.

I love this! My husband could be your husband's twin. I haven't see a fresh fish in 20 years but the new rods, reels & boat "stuff" just keeps comin' on in. Great come back.

My husband fishes and does woodwork but he is vary frugal and uses stuff left from his grandfather (hubby is 78)
He has purchased new things but not much. The only thing keeping me from screaming is a comment his brother made. "you would be a millionaire monk if you weren't married to her.) Gotta love that guy

I don't have a hubby or partner but every time I am making a new quilt the new bee ladies at class always ask who it is for. I tell them the dogs but really I don't make for people I make for me to learn new technique or patterns or just design a new quilt or make bags, bags and bags. Quilts are my pleasure to make. I do gift them but when I already.

My DH is supportive of my quilting.

I have had this comparison conversation with fellow quilters at LQS, when someone comments about she 'needs' (aka wants) a newer/better sewing machine. But DH is not in favor of it. I ask if 'he' has any hobbies (hunting, fishing, golf or woodworking, etc). Most of the time they do. Then, "Does he talk to you about needing/wanting the newest thing for his hobby or just show up with it?" What surprises me, is that some gals have not come up with using 'his' hobby to her benefit.

Come on gals, we need to wake them up. Sometimes it takes a 2x4 to get their attention!

I am glad that hubby finally understands. The passion of quilting is truely satisfying and good therapy. I use mine in my humanitarian efforts and to gift to family and friends. There isn't one thing wrong with that.

There will be female people who are not going to understand us. But, I don't understand thier habits of buying expensive jewery, excessive clothing, purses and shoes either. Or male people who, like you say, buy expensive trucks, sporting goods or shop tools.

What I don't care for are people who waste money and think it is ok. But, roll thier eyes at us. Or for people who try to take advantage of us by trying to buy something wonderful for nothing. Our talent and time is worth a goodly sum.
