I never heard of doing HSTs this way, but I sure am going to try it. Thanks for the tip!!! BTW - the quilt came out beautiful. I love using charm squares and Layer cakes to come up with these beautifully color coordinated quilts.

Hi Eddie, it is beautiful! So did it take only one layer cake? I have a lot of trouble understanding and knowing how much fabric I need.

Your quilting is beautiful and your choice of border fabric really sets off the center.

Yes, the main center of the top took 1 layer cake. Each of the paired and sewn layers creates 4 HSTs that can create a 13" block. I laid those 13" blocks out in a 4 x 5 block pattern (20 blocks total), so there was absolutely no waste from the layer cake - every square was used.

Eddie you are absolutely amazing. That is all I can say. I wish my husband would take up a hobby - especially something as rewarding as quilting..

I have to ask - what started you quilting? Most men won't touch a sewing machine let alone quilt!!
