I made one for my MIL last year for Christmas. Haven't seen it since. I really like the Texas Sue quilt. JoAnns had an international book of Sues. I don't really like the ones where she dies.

This is very similar to the top my grandmother made before my mom was born in 1948. Mom remembers it being spread out on the bed when she was a child. It was never quilted, but is quite worn now and has been badly mended.

When I was in elementary school, my 2 sisters and I shared a room. During that time, Mom made us each quilts like it using double knits. The sashing on each was different- our signature color. For the dresses, she used scraps from making her square dance dresses, our christmas easter dresses, and old dresses of Grandma's. They are truly special.

I have a few antique quilts that are like the umbrella girl posted earlier and also the Sun Bonnet Sue. Although I have sold the Umbrella girl quilt to Australia, I loved it and was sorry to part with it.

These were both hand stitched and quilted in 1935 by Mrs. Ruth Dixon of Tennessee. I purchased them about 10 years ago from her daughter. I am currently making a SBS out of retro fabric. Good luck with yours.

One of the problems I was having was turning the fabric right side out. The fusible interfacing kept tearing. I changed the interfacing to a little better quality and weight. I am using Quilt in a day pattern book. I guess the first time will be the practice quilt. My first log cabin quilt ended up as a " practice quilt" too as my logs were a little wonky.

I have made two or three SBS and this is my favorite. BTW, I thought Hobby Holly was the 70s version of SBS.

my only comment from the one i made is this: be sure that if you needle turn the edges you have enough fabric turned they don't fray . My GD's did and now her mom won't let her use it. I'll have to make her a BIG kid quilt now that she is 12 anyway. Course this daughter doesn't want to use her wedding quilt on her bed because it was hand quilted and she is afraid of messing it up. i'll be talking to her. i meant it to be used and the stitches are easily 5-6 to an inch and every 2" she ought to be fine.
