    Default spray glue failure

ive just used 505 spray glue on a wool batting [i usually use cotton batting with no problems] initally stuck well and the first lines of stabilising were ok ----as i progressed the glue lost its grip--has anyone else had this problem--is it just the wool batting ----this was the end of a can i had used on several projects it was tacky to touch and held well initally--any in put appreciated

I had that happen too. Thought it was because it got old , but it didn't happen with my other sprays. And also, thought maybe I got cheap and didn't put enough on - but I am sure it was the same as always. It was most annoying. Even though I usually spray and then pin sparingly, the spray makes it so much easier. I quit buying 505 after that - it is a lot more expensive and just didn't do the job.

I use the 505 a lot and have never had this happen to me. I haven't tried it on a wool batting but have used it on poly and cotton with no problems, even when it takes me weeks to finish quilting a quilt. I love my 505

I haven't used the 505 but I have heard of a lot of people complain about it. For me, the Dritz basting spray you get at Walmart has worked the best!

I use Sulky 2000. It comes in a small can but doesn't take as much. Never had a problem

I have some backing material with 505 over spray from months ago. It is still tacky and picking up threads. I am thinking it might be the wool batt?

Is there still lanolin on the fibers of wool after it is processed? Any knitters out there? If there is a residue, it might interfere with the spray holding properly. This is just a suggestion.

It is also better to spray the back of the fabric rather than the batting, if you don't already do this. Batting is very porous and lets the spray sink into it. The fabric holds the spray on top.

Try contacting the maker with your situation, They would be the ones who could help the most with this problem.
    peace

Seems like I read somewhere - on the can?? - that these sprays work best on polyester batting. But I've used it on cotton without trouble. Haven't tried it on wool yet because I usually use the wool when I plan to handquilt, and I like to thread baste those quilts instead.
