Yep! I totally understand. I'm afraid that I am one of those that cleans the back of the quilt top before sandwiching. I don't bother too much while piecing since there will be stray threads no matter how hard I try. I'm also a bit on the compulsive side. Oh well!

I also cut as I go along. I've tried to leave them, but it bothered me too much!

I, and I teach my pupils to do the same, clip the threads as I go, the reason is that the "tails" can catch up in your sewing and your feet and bobbin, in other words they are a pain and get in the way, clip as you go along.

Of course you always do a thorough check when you have finished for the odd ones that got away

I'm with BellaBoo. Most of the time I have lots of stragglers on the back. But then I know I cut some because they are all over my clothes and sofa and carpet and dog.......
