Mine all look different if they looked the same color wise or pattern I would get bored and never work on it. I like to switch thing up a bit. :wink: :wink:

I never really thought about it, but I do tend to have a lot of the same kind of colors - Holly Taylor earth tone types - in my quilts. Of course, ones that I make for others are different - a BRIGHT baby quilt for one friend, a blue/purple/green/teal batik for another, etc. But as for the ones for me...probably look a lot alike even though I do a lot of different patterns. I'm trying to branch out. Bought a bunch of 1930s repro fabrics and did a small wallhanging that immediately went to my sister-in-law because she liked it, but I have another one for me on my to-do list.

Mine don't necessarily look the same, because I seem to encounter a different problem with each quilt. Just when I think I have licked one problem, a different one pops up on the next project. So, I guess you could say that each of my quilts is unique because of the fuss factors.

Not mine. I don't alwyas use patterns and if I do, I change them. I get very different fabrics. Because I am selling many of my quilts, I tend to look at fabrics from the eye of the potential buyer. I used not to make anything I didn't trully enjoy, and even though I still do that, I have started looking into themes I don't do for myself and techniques I have never used.

Another thing is that I try to use new techniques (at least new to me) for evey new quilt I start.

Thanks for all the input! Interesting to know how others see their quilts. I like scrappy quilts and primitive colors (blacks, reds, mustard yellows) I tend to make most of my quilts with this in mind but I use different patterns. I guess I will have to make myself branch out a little at a time.

i think people develop a signature style and i don't see anything wrong with that.

i view it as a painter, you can always tell a Picasso or a Pollock.

so its the same for quilters, you can always tell a Bryer-Fallert or a Schamber.

develop your our signature style and don't try to fight it - its part of the creative process and very uniquely you.

I used to always do the same boring simple sashing 'til this year. I challenged myself to do different layouts and borders not the same old same old and I am finding that I enjoy the creating process and finished results a lot more.
I love scrappy quilts and there are a lot of different patterns to try and borders to try too. I don't usually do the same one twice but some are calling me to remake them so I just might do those over

I like to think of it as quilting in a series. I use the same pattern for all the baby quilts I make. I even have a set of fabrics I use for the blocks and just get a different background for each quilt. So they're the same but different. Then I do a series of quilts for the girls after they move to a twin size bed. They're square in a square with black sashing. I can use up a mulitude of scraps for those so they tend to look similar. I've made 6 of them so far and I have #7 & 8 started. The boys have gotten either string quilts or a D9P. There are a lot more girls in the family!

Other than those two series my quilts don't look alike. I tend to use a wide color palatte though. I don't care for the Thimbleberries, Kansas Troubles type colors at all and I have noticed the people that favor those colors tend to only use that type of color range.

If I was only making quilts for myself, I would probably have several styles and color palettes that I would pretty much stick to... But most of what I am making are geared to other's tastes and it keeps me out of a self imposed rut LOL.
