When I retired in October 2011 my husband bought me a new sewing machine...a Baby Lock Ellure Plus. It can do all of the things I no longer can because of tremors...thread the needle, sew on buttons, embroider, quilt. Trying to sew on one small shirt button can lead to three separate bandaids and quite a bit of blood! I am SO ticked off at my neurologist. When I first showed him the original tremor in my left hand he said, "Oh that is called an essential tremor, it's nothing". Why as more and more symptoms have raised their ugly heads has he never considered it could be related? When I tell doctors that I have uncontrolled jerking all over my body they look at me like I have three heads???

Jusmom, Essential Tremors can be progressive, I have done a lot of research by just typing "Essential Tremors" in the Google search bar. TMW is right, ET is actually a disorder instead of a disease and it will not kill you. But it can be a challenge dealing with it. If your neurologist told you it is nothing to worry about, he is right, but it seems he doesn't have much compassion. You might want to find a neurologist that specializes in movement disorders. Check out Essential Tremor Foundation & subscribe to their newsletter, they also have a Facebook page that is helpful. There is no medication that has been created especially for ET, so doctors are trying Beta-Blockers, anti-seizure, and ADHD meds, botox, accupuncture, ultrasound with radiation without a lot of luck for most people. And what works for one patient will not necessarily work for the next. Deep brain stimulation seems to be helping the most, but that's not an option for me with no insurance. ET was just recently given a medical coding for the insurance industry, so hopefully now more research will be done. And according to everything I've read Jusmom, all these symptoms could be and probably are related to ET.

Sometimes I will drop the same piece of trash three or four times before I finally get it into the trashcan. I am sitting here in amazement, crying, because I can't believe there are other people going through this. I went to Johns Hopkins and they could not figure out everything that was wrong with me. Does anyone else have leg problems? All of my symptoms are episodic, sometimes varying by the hour. Does anyone else have pain all over there body? We are assuming it is my fibro, but now that I know there is more to ET than "it's nothing" I wonder!

Lol, I am currently researching a new neurologist. The first time my husband met the man, as soon as we got out of his office, my husband said, "That man thinks his sh** don't stink!". And yes, my husband is 100% correct. I just cannot believe the whole list of symptoms that I have been reciting to doctor after doctor after doctor and NO ONE has ever said it could be connected with ET. I never researched ET because the neurologist just brushed it off like it was totally inconsequential. Not even the two specialists I saw at Hopkins (at $625 a pop) mentioned it! Only my primary doctor said that he thinks there is probably one thing that is encompassing a large portion of my symptoms...but nobody knows what it is. OMG, Thank you SO much. You have NO idea how much you and the others have helped me! Now that I know there can be other symptoms associated with it, I won't be as scared when every month a new symptom arises. Thank you so much, and God bless you and all of the others, for the change you have made in my life today.

I don't think the pain is from your tremors, my husband has not had any pain, although his tremors is a type called orthostatic tremors , a rare type,. and so far no med. helps.

I have no pain with my tremors either, but maybe your pain is from a combo of fibro, ET and your back issues. I sometimes wonder if my back issues are contributing to the ET, as it seems a lot of people have both. Just looking for a connection, I guess. I, like you have just started getting the jerking movements. I thought it was just restless leg syndrome, who knows?

A few weeks ago, I was making corn muffins. While spooning the batter into the muffin cups, my hand started jerking uncontrollably. DH noticed it and came over to help. He grabbed hold of my wrist thinking that would stop the jerking, but it didn't. He asked me if I was jerking the spoon deliberately to get the batter to drop. Nope, the hand was jerking on it's own and batter was splattered all over the muffin tin & work surface. DH then took over the task for me. Don't even try stirring a full pot, sometimes there will then be more ingredients on the stove than in the pot.......lol.

There are many videos on You Tube, some posted by doctors, but mostly posted by patients.

I thought about sending pm's to some of you that have responded, but would much rather keep it here as long as the moderators allow. So glad I started this thread, it is helping me a lot. Better yet, it seems to be raising awareness and helping so many others.

Thanks, Thelma. It probably is related to my fibro or polymyalgia rheumatica. I have SO many things going on at once that doctors have a real problem with overlapping symptoms.

Here is the response I got to an e-mail I sent to Fiskars Customer Service about their new ruler with the rotary cutter attached.
