I love this pattern too. I have made so many of these in the past, it's no longer funny. The last one I did was for my gf gresser. She wanted it extra long.
It was like 6ft long when I was done and wider also. I hated the fabric I found. I got it at a LQS and it shredded so bad...horrible. I was so disappointed that I put it away...where it sat until I finally finished 3 YEARS LATER! I was so happy to get it out of the house! Here is a pic of the beast. It's not very bood, but it's all I could find.

Actually, I think those colours are lovely. Shame it frayed though but good on you sticking at it and getting it out of the way.
I am now on runner No 2 but have spent so much time at group showing and explaining to everyone how it's done I have only done 2 strips!
