Default How would you quilt this?

My newest project (not yet quilted). This is the Maya glyph for the baktun. The big deal in December was the end of the 13th baktun (with all the other milestones 0) so that the date per the maya long count is 13.0.0.0.0. Don't know how to quilt it. Was going to FMQ over it but maybe I should just quilt around the applique and maybe echo it to make it pop.

I would outline stitch the appliqué and stipple the inner background. You might have enough room on the border to quilt in some masks/faces?

I agree with Tartan. I am just finishing a panel of wine bottles and glasses that look like they are on shelves. I stipples inside each bottle and the background and outlined each bottle.

What a cool quilt! And I love those fabrics. Did you wait to finish it until you knew for sure that there would be a 2013?! (giggle)

I agree with Tartan about the quilting.

I'd echo quilt around the designs a bit then in the more open areas do some stippling or some repeat of the pattern.
