Hi Pyffer3,
I have been making similar blocks. Ended up with enough "new material" for a few different projects. One quilt has 90 of the scrap blocks--sashed with a medium purple in a 1 inch finished strip. Went with purple because that is my favorite color. Another quilt has huge sections of the scrappy material--made three rows, each row finishes to 36 by 72, half the row is scrappy and the other half is made up of six four patches made from 6 inch finished blocks. The last project is going to be a lap quilt, using 42 blocks just sewn together with a 1 inch and a 2 inch finished borders--one set of borders is light blue and dark blue and another lap quilt will have a small dot and a red border. Love to see pictures when you finish!
Good luck!

I know you said you want to avoid black, but I think black would really make you blocks pop. Separate each block with a 2-inch strip, put a 2-inch black border, then add a wider 4-inch border in a different color.

Where are you going to be using it? Cheddar is a great neutral and I love those dark browned reds - that would be a calming influence I think. Gosh I love crumb/string blocks. Also eggplant is a great neutral for this also.
