You know, we all are beginners at one time or another. Sometimes, even the easiest of blocks can be difficult for some while more challenging ones come easier. It really is more about the person and alot has to do with the "mood". I have a quilt that I call my ugly quilt. The one that started it all as it was my first quit to ever do. The sashings are off on all of it. How hard should sashings be? LOL
Well, I look back at it now and I love it. There are even some blocks in here that I had to add little skinny border frames to so they would be the right size. They were too small! My family teases me and says there is nothing wrong with it but, of course I see it and think whoa! I will never show that to any other quilters. We are so hard on ourselves. Everyone's blocks have been beautiful. It will be so neat for all of you to look back at one day and say, "Wow, I have come a long way!"
I will be doing the block also Denise. I am moving in 2 weeks and have packed all of quilting stuff so I can't sew. YES, I AM ABOUT TO GO INSANE! I have been quilting for 10 years and I am sure that others on here have been quilting much longer and still see some blocks as a challenge. I think we all need those challenges. It is how we grow and become better quilters.
I'll say one more thing and then I'll get off the box. :D
I don't do hand applique very often but I absolutely LOVE it. I still see it as a challenge when I have to start a new applique project. My stitches are always visible and yucky at first. But, within a few hours, I am really really good at it. I don't rip out and start over or I would never get the over 200 kits I have done.
So, even when you are "seasoned" and never forget how to do it, you get better at it the longer you work on a particular area. HST's are one of those areas. I bet everyone would get a better block the 2nd time than the first if you made two back to back (even those of us who have been doing it forever).
Denise, don't worry. Come back to us. It is a very good block and one that I plan to do a whole quilt with as well. I had never seen it before and I love it. You did good!

Denise, There is nothing wrong with your BOM. Some of us have found it hard and others have found it easy. I personally have not found it easy. That is nothing against your choice. It is the block that is hard in my opinion.
I can't understand how i am to put it together, neither can i understand why i spent 12 hours on one block. MY Choice is that i did. I made it, didnt like it, didnt enjoy doing it and was upset with MYSELF for making a total mess of it. At the end of the day, i did it, i posted the pic, i took the challenge and failed. It is nothing aginst you so please do not take it personally.

I don't think that everyone is going to do this block and if they dont then that is their choice. If you try and fail at least you try. I did the crytals knowing it was going to be difficult. The Sunbonnet Sue was really hard. My Mum helped me but didnt stand over my shoulder while i did it.

If at first you dont succeed, try, try and try again. I do belive in that motto.

If i have upset you Denise then i am sorry xxxx

Ok, I know when I am defeated! You all who finished this block is a better person than me. I did post the pic though to show that I did attempt it. I am glad this isn't the first block I tried because I would have quit!!.....lol

Anyway I am glad Denise found a challenge to post but I failed. Maybe this will be one I will try way later when I become a more experienced quilter.

it looks in the photo as though you hadn't yet sewn the sections together. it ALSO looks to me like it might turn out a lot better than you expect if you do finish it. i saw a lot to be proud of in what you've done so far.

i have a strong feeling what we have here is not a failure. we have a pending success. 8)

It all comes down to one thing, if we want to make the block we will, if we don't it isn't anything personal. This is getting all out of proportion

2. Each month the new poster will be responsible for either a link or directions for one new block. We all have different skill levels and technique preferences. If a posted block doesn't interest you, feel free to skip it.

This is no 2 of BOM rules and info
