it does not look 'a mess' at all- sometimes the best quilts are the ones that were made with what we have- running out of and replacing with another is a designers challenge- that more times than not makes for a wonderful end project...and your's is no exception...and the grandson is going to LOVE it! the boys in my family are the ones who love lots of colors best- part of their adventurous DNA. and think of patterns as (guidelines) to get you started- there is nothing wrong with changing them up to make it your own- and work for you.

I think your grandson is related to two of mine, don't you just love them?

I think it looks great and perfect size for sitting on the couch watching T.V. in the early mornings.

Your story makes me smile - obviously there's a lot of love in this quilt and what your grandson will know is that his grandmother made him a special quilt to show her love.

Jan, it looks wonderful to me. And I love your choice of pattern. I'm glad you could make it all work despite the obsticals. My sweet niece asked me to make her son a John Deere quilt for his new twin bed. I think this pattern would work.

It looks great! Sometimes a quilt will fight you from the beginning to the end. Those are the ones that you just want done but later you can appreciate them.
