Default Singer Merritt 2404 - where can I find more info?

First let me say, be careful what you bid on, you may just win it. The 2404 was the first machine I owned and at $150 is was a big purchase for my hubby and I so shortly after getting married. I saw this one on eBay priced at $100 BIN, noticed it had a "make offer" option, and since I had sort of been looking for one, I thought what the heck and offered $50 thinking it would never be accepted. LOL! I got an email from the seller about 20 minutes later - bid accepted.

So, I'm waiting for it to arrive and in the mean time I'm looking for more info on the machine - cleaning, servicing, and repair if needed. Is there a website out there with lots of info for this machine?

Thanks!
Jodie

If you google it, you will find some info. Don't know if it is what you want or not.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I googled for more info and found a little bit of info. I wouldn't dream of asking without googling first. Sometimes there are little know websites out there with loads of information that do not show up in searches, so I was hoping someone might know of one.

Thanks,
Jodie

I have one my sister gave me. She had only sewed an apron on it, then it sat for about 30 years. I oiled it and it was running but I did not have time to sew on it. When I got it out to sew on it the motor would not work. From reading on this forum, I oiled the underneath instead of grease. So I think that is what is wrong with it. Does any one want it? I do not know how to work on machines.

I would love to have it - let me know how much shipping is.

Thanks!
Jodie

Hi Jodie, I'm new to the group and found your posting for the Singer Merritt 2404. I'm wondering if you ended up receiving the sewing machine and how well you like it? I found one here on Craig's List and the pics look nice, it's been cleaned and serviced, asking price is $40.00. I would appreciate any opinions you might have to offer.
