Default camp mattress covers

I have been asked to make covers for some foam sleeping mats and was given Waverley indoor/outdoor fabric...and it is striped (lol) This should be fun. I am concerned about a few things and am hoping someone can direct me. What size thread and needle would you suggest and also the stitch length. I am thinking I probably have to zig-zag the seams. Any suggestions would help me. I have to have it done by Sept. 22...wish me luck.
Thanks.

I would use a polyester thread and a 14 needle. That is just what I would use. And I would use the zizag but shortened a little.
