Don't take a salesman's opinion on anything. He's trying to sell what he has left over... Try them out for yourself, get other quilter's opinions, etc. Then decide. Lucky you, to get a new machine!

I have an older Pfaff and a newer Babylock sewing and embroidery machine with all the bells and whistles. It does everything but sing to me while I sew. I am still learning how to use some of the features and it is a real workhorse. Sews lots of things the Pfaff sneers at. Don't underestimate the Babylock!

I love my Viking Sapphire 830. It has so many nice features like the auto foot lift. Great for aplique and chain piecing.
    Also 10 in throat space.

Do not buy until you try out both machines. I like my Janomies.

I have a Janome 6500, for runner of the 6600, 7700 and really like it. Take your time shopping and trying out machines. I think it is telling if they even sold the floor model and have the baby lock melody left. also it is not just the brand. Be sure you get the features you want. size of throat opening is a big deal with quilting. I also like a knee lifter and auto thread cutter. If you also make clothing then a free arm would be nice but the Janome does not have that on the 7700 or 6600.

I'm on my 3rd Babylock. Keep buying better machines with more bells and whistles. For me it's Babylock all the way.

I have had my 6600P since they first were on the market, like 6 or 7 years. DH keeps offering to up grade me to a Horizon, but I am so in love with the 6600, I tell him not to mess with my machine or my Toyota Camry!!!!You can not go wrong with the Janome. FYI, I always use Auriful thread on my machine!

I have a Janome 7700 and love it. Its the best machine for a quilter. And it does have a free arm! The table that goes with it is really great. I will stick with Janome always.

He is actually the manager of the first store but is working at the second due to people being on vacation so it is all working itself out. That store has both machines there to compare side by side.
I think you would be better off to go to this store. You could try them at the same time.
I have a Babylock Jane and a Juki both are straight stitch only machines, 9" throats. They are all I need, I don't do anything fancy.
I hope you find the perfect machine for you.
